SUMMARY:Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification™ Training
DESCRIPTION:The Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification™ (RHFAC) is a national rating system that measures and certifies the level of meaningful access of buildings and sites. The RHFAC is offered as a training course that allows individuals to become certified accessibility assessors and helps them to better understand physical accessibility\, how they can improve\, and identify barriers for their community\, customers\, or employees. \nThis training course is highly recommended for individuals who are involved in assessing\, designing\, constructing\, commissioning\, or maintaining buildings or their surroundings. \nAs the need for increased accessibility in all communities continues to grow\, the RHFAC Training is a great opportunity for IDC members to enhance their skills and ensure everyone can access and use the spaces they’re designing\, building\, or managing in a meaningful way. I kindly request that you share the RHFAC Training course with your members\, either by forwarding this email\, or if applicable\, adding the course to your association’s event calendar or professional development listing. \nThe RHFAC Training is held twice throughout the year\, and we are currently accepting registrations for fall 2021 and spring 2022. The training course is delivered online through Carleton University’s READ (Research\, Education\, Accessibility\, and Design) Initiative. \nThe deadline to register for the fall 2021 course is October 7\, 2021. The online course will include both synchronous (real-time classes with an instructor via Zoom) and asynchronous (offline activities) segments. The course will run for eight days over two weeks. Registrants must be available for the full course: \nWeek 1: Monday October 25 – Thursday October 28\, 2021 \nWeek 2: November 1 – Thursday November 4\, 2021 \nSpace is limited. Interested individuals can register for the Fall 2021 RHFAC Training via READ’s online form. \nFor additional information\, including prerequisites\, learning outcomes\, course cost\, and spring 2022 dates\, please visit Carleton University’s READ website. \nFor questions about the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification™ Training\, please email read.initative@carleton.ca.

SUMMARY:32nd World Design Assembly to convene in October 2021
DESCRIPTION:The World Design Organization (WDO)® plans to hold its 32nd World Design Assembly (WDA) in Shunde\, China on October 29 – 31\, 2021. Held biennially\, the three-day event is a significant occasion for the organization’s leadership\, membership\, and external stakeholders to discuss key issues affecting the industry\, guide the future of the organization\, and explore the critical ways in which design can contribute to the international development agenda. \nThe event will be hosted by the Shunde People’s Government of Foshan in conjunction with several local events\, namely the 2021 Guangdong Industrial Design World Expo and Shunde Design Week. \n“The selection of Shunde is the result of a careful deliberation process following an international call for hosts last year\,” stated WDO President Srini Srinivasan. “Shunde represents an important manufacturing base and industrial design hub in China where there are a reported 1800 industrial design driven companies in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) of which Shunde is part.” \nWhile the current expectation is to host an in-person event\, WDO is cognizant of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and will remain abreast of local and international health and travel restrictions to implement every necessary measure to ensure the safety of all delegates. \nThrough this collaboration\, both WDO and the host aim to showcase the region’s capacity for innovation and creativity to new audiences around the world and to forge new partnerships that will promote sustainable economic and social development. “We look forward to convening our membership community to pursue our mandate and initiate tangible actions towards the betterment of quality of life through design\,” stated Srinivasan. \nMore details about the World Design Assembly’s programming\, which will include a Research and Design Education Forum will be shared in the coming months. \n
